Love the new bike lanes on Somerville Ave. However, people have decided that it's ok to park in the bike lane in front of MAACO for some reason. And no one is enforcing the No Parking signs there. Please clear the bike lane!

If you report illegally parked cars to 311 (or 617-666-3311) they've been very good about ticketing immediately.
The city will probably restripe this section of the roadway to make it clearer once Somerville Ave is back under their full control. Right now the state has at least partial jurisdiction due to the construction project, but the signoff is imminent (maybe next week?)

Yeah, I've gone the 311 route. It shouldn't take a call to 311 to fix the problem. The opposite side of the street is permit-only, so there must be a regular parking patrol in the area. Also, this area of Somerville Ave is frequently traveled by the Somerville PD, who apparently have no interest in fixing this.
Also, not sure what restriping is necessary--the bike lane is striped, there are no parking signs up, what more can be done?

This issue came up at the Somerville Bicycle Committee meeting last night (I believe it was this specific area which was discussed, but I might be mistaken), and the members agreed that it was a understood striping issue which the city would fix once control over Somerville Ave is handed back to them. Something about a curb cutout stripe which looks like a parking spot to eager drivers? I'm not familiar with the area, so I can't say with confidence.
Additionally, it seems that parking enforcement is somewhat haphazard due to mixed state/city jurisdiction, but that problem should go away very soon. Either way, I agree that it's ultimately an enforcement issue, and I think the city will take care of it, especially if we help by reporting it as needed.
