This really needs to be done. There used to be a crosswalk here, before the repaving. This has been submitted two other times, to include once by a city council member.
According the Dunwoody's Public Works Director, "The city’s policy has been to continue to maintain existing side street crosswalks and add new ones when new sidewalks are installed or where they are needed to direct pedestrians to the proper crossing path. The latter case would typically be at locations where the crossing is at an angle, unusually wide or on school walking routes where children need more guidance. With over 200 intersections of side streets with an arterial or collector road in Dunwoody, the cost to add and maintain the crosswalks is not insignificant so these are the locations that have been given priority.
This policy is based on the language in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices which states that:
· At stop controlled intersections, crosswalk markings provide guidance for pedestrians by delineating paths on approaches to and within the intersection
· Crosswalks should be installed where engineering judgement indicates that they are needed to direct pedestrians to the proper crossing path
· Crosswalks should not be installed indiscriminately"
Please, for the safety of our children and all the pedestrians, make this happen. Thanks.
